egyptian shumba

by the tammys is the greatest song of all time. i know i tend to say that a lot, but i have literally never heard a song as kick arse as this one in my life. it's one of those songs that totally blows your mind with amazingness the first time you listen to it, like psycho by the sonics, except it's infinitely better. warner music group is a bitch so the song is nowhere to be found on youtube, but you can download it here and i really recommend you do.

i'm not going to say anything more about it apart from the fact that it's probably one of the most progressive singles to come out of the sixties, and that's saying something.

I haven't checked you blog for quite a while. It's so great to see "Egyptian Shumba" is your favorite. Fantastic record!

The Tammy's made several other good records though none quite as good as "Egyptian Shumba". They also backed Lou Christie on several songs, and backed some other artists as well. There is one song they do backup on (can't remember the performer) that is a little reminiscent of ES.

The B-52's song "Rock Lobster" seems to be strongly influenced by ES.
