"i don't know if i'm unhappy because i'm not free, or if i'm not free because i'm unhappy."
~ jean seberg in a bout de souffle (1960)

egyptian shumba

by the tammys is the greatest song of all time. i know i tend to say that a lot, but i have literally never heard a song as kick arse as this one in my life. it's one of those songs that totally blows your mind with amazingness the first time you listen to it, like psycho by the sonics, except it's infinitely better. warner music group is a bitch so the song is nowhere to be found on youtube, but you can download it here and i really recommend you do.

i'm not going to say anything more about it apart from the fact that it's probably one of the most progressive singles to come out of the sixties, and that's saying something.

pale blue eyes

sometimes i feel so happy
sometimes i feel so sad
sometimes i feel so happy
but mostly you just make me mad
baby you just make me mad
linger on, your pale blue eyes
linger on, your pale blue eyes

walking in the rain

the more i listen to this song, the more i think that it's probably my absolute favourite song of all time. it's best listened to at full volume, the wall of sound will blow your mind. the beginning of the chorus still gives me chills.

hello sailor vintage fair

i bought a $5 mod dress, a $5 jesus & mary chain t-shirt and the following vinyl:

and then i came home, sifted through my dad's 45s and found leader of the pack by the shangri-la's. sometimes my life is amazing.

a streetcar named desire

"blanche: i never was hard or self-sufficient enough. when people are soft - soft people have got to court the favour of hard ones, stella. have got to be seductive - put on soft colours, the colours of butterfly wings, and glow - make a little - temporary magic just in order to pay for - one night's shelter! that's why i've been - not so awf'ly good lately. i've run for protection, stella, from under one leaky roof to another leaky roof - because it was storm - all storm, and i was - caught in the centre. ... people don't see you - men don't - don't even admit your existence unless they are making love to you. and you've got to have your existence admitted by someone, if you're going to have someone's protection. and so the soft people have got to - shimmer and glow - put a - paper lantern over the light. ... but i'm scared now - awf'ly scared. i don't know how much longer i can turn the trick. it isn't enough to be soft. you've got to be soft and attractive. and i - i'm fading now!"

i LOVE this play.

a thing of beauty is a joy forever

and this is so, so beautiful:

EDIT: so this was meant to be a link to song to the siren by tim buckley as performed on the monkees tv show, but clearly the uploader is a bitch, so go find it yourself. it's extremely difficult but it's so worth it.
