the best friends i have had

nintendo 64

1. my first best friend, since kindergarten i think. however while we sat together in class/i liked to braid her hair and stuff, i was a very antisocial child and i chose to wander around alone during lunchtime, making up stories instead of spending time with the other children. we drifted after i left melbourne for a year in year three. by the time we were in the same class again in year 6, we were completely different people. we both ended up moving to different schools and i haven't seen her in years.

2. she was my best friend when i moved to new south wales for a year. we used to bond over playing pokemon gold, and sometimes i would go to her house and we would play perfect dark on nintendo 64. however i lost a little respect for her when i found out she supported john howard (yes i had already been indoctrinated into my parents' socially liberal political agenda by the age of 7). then i moved back to melbourne at the end of the year. there was talk of her moving to melbourne later on as well, but she never did. she added me on facebook a while ago, it's funny seeing people you only knew as children all grown up, and i suppose she feels the same was about me.

3. i befriended her in year 5, she has such a warmth and frenetic energy that attracted me and she used to be a bit of a social butterfly. however over time she clung to me more and more strongly, and at the end of year 6 my parents asked the school to put us in different classes for year 7 so we could make different friends. we ended up hanging out in a big group with some of my friends the next year, and then i moved schools. we still remain close friends but now a struggles to make friends where i don't anymore, almost a role reversal of what we used to be. i see her quite often. she can still be a bit clingy but mostly i love to spend time with her.

4. i made friends with her at the start of year 11. by that stage i had lost all my friends from the previous two years, and we became known as a single entity, neither of us really had any other friends so we stuck together. we had so many wonderful times together that i look back upon fondly, but by the end of year 12 i was struggling for independence while she was struggling to keep us together. this year we are in different countries, and i started university while she can't until next year. she was very upset when i told her i wasn't taking a gap year. but i like the friends i have made this year, and i like being my own person for a change. i still love her a lot i guess. i'll see what happens when she gets back.

hitchcock blonde

i brought the following photos of tippi hedren in the birds to the hairdresser:

and she appropriated it for me so i could wear it to my friend's formal:

it upsets me that i can't wear this hairstyle every day without people looking at me funny.

the sprawl

list of things i need:
1. polka dot tights from target
2. pair of black shorts
3. black cardigan that's not too long and not too short (impossible to find!)
4. ankle boots (i wish i'd grabbed the $7 ones from the salvos the other day)
5. big floppy sunhat from big w
6. another pair of stilettos that actually fit
7. a floral summer dress
8. love heart bag from cheap store on swanston
9. plain zip-up hoodie
10. faux fur leopard print coat (IT FEELS LIKE I'VE BEEN SEARCHING FOREVER AND IT BREAKS MY HEART)

gave up on buying/making my alice in wonderland costume, ended up being edie sedgwick for halloween instead since it will be the last year i'll have hair short enough to pull it off. i wore 120-denier tights as pants, a long striped top and huge earrings, pinned my hair back to make it look shorter and sprayed it silver with temporary colouring and did full edie make-up complete with beauty spot.

chain-smoked all night, justified it with the "historically accurate costume" excuse.
i had a good time. at these parties i can forget life at school, escape judgement and just have fun.

not on rex manning day!

i got my hair cut last weekend and now it kind of looks like this:

everyone who's commented on it thinks it looks great, but some people can't get over the fact that i'm growing my hair out and they want me to have short hair forever.

went to another party on friday night, i made lots of new friends but i was a bit wasted and hooked up with someone i shouldn't have, now i'm feeling terribly remorseful. the night after that i slept over at my best friend's house, we made some food that we had seen on thisiswhyyourefat.com - a toasted sandwich with nutella, peanut butter and marshmellow fluff which was delightful and gave us food babies. then we set up a projector in her room and watched bill and ted's excellent adventure and empire records.

you'll speak when you're spoken to

today was lots of fun. since it was report-writing day, i had yet another day off so my friends and i went out. i bought a croissant and starbucks for breakfast, then took a train into the city and shopped in melbourne central until 11am when i met janet and tina under the clocks. we went up to hoyts to see i love you, man (it's kind of a tradition for us to go and watch crap movies). it ended up being hilarious, which was a pleasant surprise.

afterwards, we met up with our more studious friend tammy (she often bails on us to go and study - to be fair, she is in year 12) and went to max brennan's to try a chocolate pizza, which tina was particularly enthused about. it's basically dough with chocolate sauce, cornflakes, marshmallow and pecans. next, tammy led us to shanghai dumpling house, an extremely cheap asian restaurant in an alleyway off chinatown. she warned us that we weren't paying for the hygiene or the service, but i guess only time will tell if i have food poisoining. i didn't plan to eat anything after the pizza, but i had a few fried dumplings because they looked so appealingly greasy.

tammy ditched us after that to go and study, so janet, tina and i spent a little time in starbucks and then went our seperate ways. i was feeling a bit guilty about eating so much junk, and then i got home and remembered that friday is our family binge day, when we have fish and chips for dinner. then mum inexplicably brought home chocolate after she went to the supermarket. so, croissant, chocolate pizza, fried dumplings, fish and chips, chocolate. i'm going to regret this tomorrow. i'm still trying to fight off the three kilograms i haven't shaken since germany, and all those butterbrezels.

psycho for drum machine

several friends and i hit the melbourne grammar social last night, it was mediocre at best. nobody was attractive [my creepy penchant for older men aside], the music was awful [the only highlight was pokerface .. it's a guilty pleasure], and there were 70 people there, max.
i only found out about the social earlier this week so i kind of threw my outfit together, it's not amazing but at least i fit the theme of "white". [spot the odd one out.]

tallest .. but WHY am i standing like that ??

i luv this photo because everyone looks incredibly high and i'm just smiling away obliviously .. my friend was actually falling on me as the photo was being taken [hence my baby-deer legs] but as you can see i am still making a concerted effort to look nice

bathroom photos are classy

maybe it's our kookiness

went over to my friend alex's yesterday for a sleepover, and that's where i'm posting from at about 9:10 in the morning. our original plan to see slumdog millionaire went hideously awry yesterday, not once, not twice, but three times.

the first time, we headed to hoyts at melbourne central only to be told that i could not be admitted because i had no id on me, and apparently i look under fifteen. thanks a lot, counter bitch. the "king of knives" store that we later walked past was suddenly tempting.

crushed by our loss but now determined to see the movie, we stopped at victoria gardens on the way back to soothe our anger with a boost juice each. we went up to the victoria gardens cinema, where they were apparently not showing slumdog millionaire because it is only showing at selected cinemas. fuck my life.

finally, we decided to see slumdog later that evening at rivoli cinemas. we walked in and saw the biggest line for a movie that i have ever seen in my life, which wound around the corner, past the candy bar to the place where they rip your tickets. about twenty minutes later and ten people away from buying our tickets, with slumdog millionaire flashing "filling" on the screen, it suddenly turned to "sold out". i spotted it first and screamed out in agony, "it's sold out !!!" while alex yelled "noooooooooo !!!". needless to say we fielded looks of disdain from everyone around us.

alex and i trudged home, utterly disappointed. we went back to alex's house where we conspired to *attempt* to see slumdog again, this time at 10:45 am today. considering our luck, despite the fact that we have learnt from our mistake and booked tickets, the cinemas will probably find some way to prevent us from seeing the movie.

here are some photos from happier times [earlier that day] ~

i bought this t-shirt from pulp kitchen at melbourne central today for $15 ~ for those who aren't movie buffs like me, it's the "heeere's johnny !" still from the shining. my friend commented on this picture on facebook asking who it was, and i quote, "knowing you .. morrissey ?" lolol

i love this skirt, i shortened it from a peasant skirt that i found last week. i only got it because i adored the fabric, it's almost identical to the luella s/s 08 florals.

hehehhehehehe i love this photo ^

we are so cool

soo, slumdog millionaire at 10:45. wish me luck.
